As a Homeownership Compliance Specialist, you will ensure that Peabody's homeowner-related products and services are delivered in full compliance with relevant legislation, leases, and best practices. Your role will be key in managing leasehold, shared ownership, and freehold transactions, ensuring accurate records are maintained and that our residents receive expert guidance on complex homeowner issues.

Your typical day might include processing a Right to Buy application, managing a lease extension inquiry, and handling an equity loan redemption, all while ensuring full compliance with legal frameworks. You’ll be the go-to expert on lease covenants, ensuring that our services are delivered smoothly and in accordance with statutory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process applications for Right to Buy, Right to Acquire, and Shared Ownership schemes, ensuring all transactions comply with legal and statutory frameworks.
  • Administer lease extensions, equity loan redemptions, and other lease-related activities such as subletting, remortgaging, and lease assignments.
  • Provide expert advice on lease covenants, ensuring they are applied and enforced accurately and effectively.
  • Handle enforcement of lease terms, including issuing statutory forfeiture notices and preparing for Tribunal or Court cases where necessary.
  • Collaborate with external partners such as legal representatives and valuers, protecting Peabody’s interests and maintaining our reputation.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date systems and records for all leasehold, shared ownership, and freehold ownership accounts, ensuring compliance with governance and best practice.

To be successful in this role, you’ll have:

  • Experience in a Housing or Council environment, with a strong focus on leasehold and homeownership compliance.
  • Expertise in equity loan redemptions and lease extensions.
  • Proven experience with Right to Buy and Right to Acquire schemes.
  • The ability to interpret and apply lease covenants to ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex legal issues to residents and stakeholders.
  • A customer-focused approach, with a commitment to delivering high-quality service to residents.
