G15 Community Impact Awards

Cook for Good and the Westminster Bangladeshi Association have been recognised for their outstanding achievement in the G15’s first Community Impact Awards.

Islington-based social enterprise Cook for Good won the best collaboration category for its partnership with Peabody, which aims to tackle food insecurity, poor diet and social isolation on the Priory Green estate near King’s Cross. By working in partnership, Cook for Good has provided over 10,000 community meals, supported 400 homes through their food pantry, and helped people connect and cook together.

Meanwhile, the category for the Community group delivering a project supporting diversity was won by the Westminster Bangladeshi Association in partnership with Peabody. The group helps provide a wide range of services and facilities for the local Bangladeshi Community in South Westminster. This includes things like language classes, homework support and youth activities, as well as monthly get-togethers and cultural events.

The awards recognise the most inspiring and impactful community-led projects in the categories of community, sustainability, wellbeing and diversity. They show the important role housing associations play in not only providing affordable homes, but also helping to support those living in local communities. In the year to the end of March 2024, members of the G15 – a group of London’s largest not-for-profit housing associations, invested more than £27m in local communities, generating £52.7m of social value and supporting nearly 320,000 people.

Andrea Purslow, Head of Strategic Partnerships and Business Development at Peabody, said: “It’s great to see the important work of groups like Cook for Good and the Westminster Bangladeshi Association being recognised.

“Last year, Peabody invested £10m in local communities to help provide the support and services local people need to become healthier, wealthier and happier. We’re always looking for opportunities to work with like-minded organisations and to help residents use and develop their own skills to better equip themselves and those around them up for the future.”
