What we're doing with residents, colleagues and partners now to meet our longer-term objectives.
We’re making good progress on our journey to become net zero in our day-to-day business by 2030, but there's still much to do. We’re gathering data, testing scenarios and working with residents and colleagues to put our roadmap in place. We’ve laid out a clear plan for the next three years so everyone can be confident in our approach and join us in making it a reality.
Our three-year plan
We’re focusing on green homes and communities, creating a sustainable business and making space for nature. We’ll pilot new technologies to make progress on energy efficiency and in tackling damp and mould. And we’ll make sure that value for money remains a priority.
We’ll work closely with residents, making sure what we do is fair, accessible and affordable. And we’ll carry out routine home improvements alongside our greener homes programme, minimising disruption for residents.
We’ll monitor our progress and measure our performance to make sure we’re on track to meet our own targets, as well as those laid out by the wider industry and environmental bodies. We were at the forefront of setting up the Sustainable Reporting Standards for social housing in 2020, working alongside other organisations and investors. And we’re still committed to leading the way today.
We know we have an important role to play in working with residents, communities and the natural world as we move towards a low carbon future.
What we'll do:
-
Improve the energy efficiency of 82 percent of our homes to EPC C or above.
-
Build all of our new homes to at least EPC B.
-
Boost colleague and resident engagement on sustainability.
-
Make significant progress towards making our vehicles electric.
-
Implement a robust measurement system to track our progress and drive improvement.
-
Report our results regularly.
How we plan to do this:
-
Install insulation, improve ventilation and replace inefficient boilers and windows in our existing homes.
-
Install the latest heating and cooling technology in our new homes.
-
Pilot new technologies to help tackle damp and mould.
-
Make space for nature.
-
Switch to electric vehicles and install charging points at our offices and in our communities.
-
Apply for government grants where available to help fund changes.
We know we have an important role to play in working with residents, communities and the natural world as we move towards a low carbon future.
